President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Karl Kendrick Chua as Secretary of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), Malacañang confirmed Thursday.
In April last year, Chua was named acting NEDA secretary by Duterte after Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ernesto Pernia resigned from the post.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque in a statement said the Chua, who previously worked with the Department of Finance as the Chief Economist and Undersecretary for the Strategy, Economics, and Results Group, has served the administration “with professionalism, competence and integrity.”
The Palace, according to Roque, is confident that Chua would “continuously and consistently perform well in his present but crucial task of jumpstarting our economic recovery amid the Covid-19 pandemic.”
“Congratulations to Sec. Chua and we wish him all the best,” he added.
