President Rodrigo Duterte has designated Vice President Leni Robredo as the Co-Chairperson of the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD).
Robredo will lead the government’s efforts against illegal drugs until June 30, 2022, a memorandum signed by Duterte on October 31 said.
“The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Philippine National Police, and Dangerous Drugs Board and all other law enforcement agencies are hereby directed to extend their full assistance and cooperation to the Vice President to ensure the success of the Government’s efforts in the war against illegal drugs,” the President said.
Meanwhile, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said Robredo will also have a hand in crafting the policies and programs pertaining to the government’s anti-illegal drug campaign.
In 2017, Duterte created the ICAD through Executive Order 15 to oversee and synchronize government efforts to combat the proliferation of illegal drugs in the country.
The Order establishes the National Anti-Illegal Drug Task Force that will undertake sustained anti-illegal drugs operations.
The Committee comprises 16 other members, namely the Department of Justice, Department of the Interior and Local Government, National Bureau of Investigation, Department of Health, Anti-Money Laundering Council, Office of the Solicitor General, Department of Education, Department of Social Welfare and Development, and Department of Trade and Industry.
The Department of Agriculture, and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Philippine Information Agency, Public Attorney’s Office, Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Customs, and Bureau of Immigration are also member agencies.
