Duterte appoints William Dar as new Department of Agriculture secretary

President Rodrigo Duterte has named William Dollente Dar as the new secretary of the Department of Agriculture (DA).
This was confirmed by former presidential aide, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go on Monday.
Dar will replace Secretary Emmanuel Piñol who was appointed to the Mindanao Development Authority.
He served as Acting Secretary of Agriculture and as Presidential Adviser on Rural Development during the Estrada administration.
Dar was also the former Director General of the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics, an international organization which conducts agricultural research for rural development.
The new DA chief earned his bachelor’s degree in agricultural education and master’s degree in agronomy from the Benguet State University. He then completed his PhD in horticulture from the University of the Philippines Los Baños.
