Duterte approves law postponing SK, barangay elections to 2022

President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday signed a law postponing the 2020 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.
Republic Act (RA) 11462 resets the barangay and SK elections scheduled on the second Monday of May 2020 to December 2022.
It can be recalled that Duterte, during his fourth State of the Nation Address in July, asked Congress to reschedule the synchronized polls to give village officials “ample time to finish their programs and projects.”
Meanwhile, the Chief Executive also signed RA 11463, institutionalizing Malasakit Centers in all public hospitals during the signing ceremony in Malacañan Palace.
The centers will serve as one-stop shops for all medical and financial assistance to indigent and poor patients.
“I stand before you today elated and grateful to join officials from the Cabinet, the members of the Department of Interior and Local Government and the Department of Health as we sign into law two statutes that are vital in realizing meaningful and lasting reform for the good of our nation,” said Duterte.
