To help ease financial burden of parents amid the coronavirus lockdown, President Rodrigo Duterte asked schools to allow staggered payment of tuition fees.

In a taped public address aired late Thursday, Duterte said that parents may borrow money from Land Bank to finance the education of their children.

“Yung tuition po sana… I hope that you’d allow staggered payment or installment lang po sa mga eskuwelahan,” the President said.

“For those who have really nothing to come up to sa bayaran, we have the Landbank and kindly listen to the rules kasi itong Landbank bubuksan namin and you can borrow money to finance the education of your children,” he added.

The Department of Education earlier announced that the new school year will open on August 24.
