Duterte asks US embassy: Bakit n’yo binigyan si Mabilog ng visa?

President Rodrigo Duterte revealed on Thursday that he had asked the US Embassy Manila to refuse dismissed Iloilo City mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog a visa.
Duterte made the statement after he read Mabilog’s name in the new list containing 45 other government officials who are allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade.
“Alam mo I’d like to inform the US Embassy. I thought I gave you a list noon. Kung nakalusot itong mayor na ito I’d like to ask the embassy, bakit ninyo nabigyan ng…? Nanghingi kayo ng listahan, ibinigay ko sa ambassador ninyo so that Filipino addicts who would go there only to destroy your country, will be denied visas,” he said in a speech delivered in Davao City.
The President first accused Mabilog of protecting drug lords in August 2016.
The following year, he ordered a lifestyle check to be conducted on Mabilog, who was later dismissed twice by the Office of the Ombudsman for his alleged unexplained wealth and anomalous towing deal.
“I think I remember I gave you a copy and the name of this mayor, because he’s so famous, was there definitely. Now, I’m asking bakit nandiyan sa America? If indeed he is in America. Or if he’s not in America, I’m sorry but maybe in Canada,” Duterte said.
Other narco-politicians from Region 6 included Maasin, Iloilo Mayor Mariano Malficio Malones Sr., Carles, Iloilo Mayor Siegfredo Alfuente Betita, Hamtic, Antique Mayor Julius Ronald Leyritana Pacificador, and Culasi, Antique Vice Mayor Ariel Tabugo Alagos Jr.
