Duterte blames solons for failed traffic promise: Congress did not pass the budget on time

President Rodrigo Duterte blamed the delayed passage of the 2019 budget for his failure to reduce the travel time from Cubao to Makati to five minutes.
“Because Congress did not pass the budget on time. So apektado lahat. Bibilihin mo ‘yan eh. When there is no public spending, your economy will slow down,” Duterte said in an interview with CNN Philippines.
In June, Duterte promised a 5-minute travel time along EDSA from Makati to Cubao by year-end.
“You just wait. Ayaw kong mag-ano. Things will improve. Maybe God-willing December smooth sailing na,” the President said in a television interview over Pastor Apollo Quiboloy’s Sonshine Media Network.
“You don’t have to worry about traffic. Cubao and Makati is just about 5 minutes na lang,” he added.
To recall, the government was forced to operate on a reenacted budget for the first four months of the year due to delays in the approval of the P3.7 trillion national budget for 2019.
The spending plan was delayed over allegations of anomalous insertions by lawmakers in the national budget.
