Malacañang said it respects the decision of the House of Representatives to resume debates on Charter change (Cha-cha) this month.
But, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the administration’s top priority is for the country to recover from the coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis.
“Nirirespeto po natin iyan at sa ngayon po ang number one priority natin ang Covid-19 lalung-lalo na ang usaping vaccine,” Roque said in a televised briefing Thursday.
The Palace official also said the revival of discussions on Cha-cha does not need the blessing of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Alfredo Garbin Jr., chair of the Committee on Constitutional Amendments, had said the panel will resume Cha-cha hearings, which will focus on “restrictive” economic provisions, on January 13.
