President Rodrigo Duterte has clarified that Mayor Evelio Leonardia of Bacolod City is not included in the list of politicians supposedly involved in the illegal drugs trade.
In a video uploaded in his Facebook page, Duterte on Thursday advised politicians against using his name to put another candidate in a bad light.
“Good day. May gusto lang akong sabihin sa mga taga Bacolod. It has something to do with yung eleksyon ngayong dadating at yung mga kandidato. Alam mo kasi, ako, I do not want something that is a fraud. Hindi naman sa nasanay ako sa ganon, kundi ayaw ko yung na gamitin yung pangalan ko something that is not true,” he said.
The President was referring to a video clip from his speech that appeared to have been “spliced” to discredit Leonardia.
“Yung sinabi ni Mayor (former Bacolod City Mayor) Monico (Puentevella) na pinlangan ko si Leonardia na as one of the.. hindi totoo I was purposely, intentionally binaliktad ang salita kaya hindi naman fair yan,” according to him.
“My advice kay Mayor Monico, you know, wag ganun tapos gamitin mo ang pangalan ko… Pinaghalo-halo halo ninyo na lalabas na si Leonardia ang nasa droga. Mali po yun. Pati si Monico wala. He’s name does not appear there neither ang pangalan ni Leonardia,” he added.
Duterte, meanwhile, said he is supporting the candidacy of Leonardia for mayor.
“I am supporting Leonardia for the mayorship ng Bacolod City. I think he is the better guy. He is more direct and honest. Siya ang gusto kong maging mayor. I’m supporting him,” the Chief Executive said.
Puentevella is running for congressman in the May midterm elections.
