Duterte clears Michael Yang of drug links: Gawa-gawa lang ‘yan ni Acierto!
President Rodrigo Duterte has vouched once again for the character of his former economic adviser, Michael Yang, amid allegations from a former police officer about his supposed involvement in the illegal drug trade.
In a speech before motorcycle enthusiasts in Iloilo Saturday (April 6), Duterte said he had known Yang for three decades.
“‘Yang Michael Yang, I can vouch for him because he was in Davao way back in 1988. Pumunta siya sa akin. Lahat naman pumupunta ng mayor eh,” he said.
Duterte accused dismissed police official Eduardo Acierto of fabricating documents to link Yang to the illegal drug trade.
“Lahat ng dossier or ‘yung mga complaint about Michael Yang having links with drug, ginawa ni Acierto. Siya lang,” he said.
Acierto recently accused Duterte, together with Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) director General Aaron Aquino and senatorial candidates Bong Go and Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, of “protecting” the group led by Yang.
His allegation, made in a video clip uploaded on April 5, was denied by both Dela Rosa and Go.
