President Rodrigo Duterte met with the families of the five soldiers who were killed in a clash with bandit Abu Sayyaf Group in Patikal, Sulu and in the cathedral bombing in Jolo, Sulu.

The “private meeting” took place last Monday in Matina Enclaves, Davao City, said Duterte’s spokesman Salvador Panelo on Wednesday.

“The President condoled with the bereaved families and honored the fallen soldiers for their heroism by awarding them the Order of Lapu Lapu (rank of Kalasag),” Panelo said.

“He comforted the grieving families and assured them of the government’s assistance in terms of housing, livelihood, employment, and educational assistance, among others,” according to him.

Joining Duterte were National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Armed Forces of the Philippines chief Benjamin Madrigal, Jr., Philippine National Police chief Oscar Albayalde, Philippine Army Commanding General Macairog Alberto.
