Duterte condoles FVR in sister’s wake immediately after arriving from Thailand


President Rodrigo Duterte visited the wake of the late Senator Leticia Ramos-Shahani early Thursday to condole with the family, led by former president Fidel V. Ramos.

Duterte went straight to the Funeraria Paz at past 4 a.m. to pay his last respects shortly after he arrived the Ninoy Aquino International Airport from his officials trips in Myanmar and Thailand.

Shahani passed away at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig City on Monday at the age of 87.

Shahani was a staunch defender of women and Philippine sovereignty.

Before she was elected senator in 1987, she worked as ambassador to Australia, and served as Secretary-General of the World Conference on the United Nations Decade of Women in Nairobi, Kenya in 1985.

She became the deputy minister for Philippine Affairs after the 1986 EDSA Revolution.
