President Duterte expressed his “heartfelt” congratulations to Brigadier General Jose Eriel Niembra for his “successful” tour of duty as the outgoing Presidential Security Group (PSG) commander.
During the Change of Command Ceremony at the PSG Compound on Tuesday, Duterte cited the security given to him and his family.
“Under his steady and unwavering leadership, the PSG was able to provide security to me and my family [for] around 19 foreign and 1,250 local engagements, as well as full protection [to] Heads of State and Ambassadors during their visits at Malacañang,” the President said.
The PSG, he added, was able to secure his safety during the 2019 senatorial elections, the 3rd and 4th State of the Nation Address, the 30th Southeast Asian Games, and the 1st Presidential Silent Drill Competition.
Duterte also lauded Niembra for providing the PSG personnel training classes to advance their careers.
“Your efficiency and effectivity in the discharge of your duties have certainly inspired the entire PSG to strive for excellence, whatever their position may be,” he concluded.
