President Rodrigo Duterte has declined the invitation of United States (US) President Donald Trump to attend the US-Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit in Las Vegas in March.
“I just received an invitation to go to the United States together with the ASEAN leaders. I haven’t been to the States. I was invited by (then-President Barack) Obama,” Duterte said in an interview with Russia Today.
Asked if he will go, the President immediately replied: “No.”
In the same interview, Duterte recalled being criticized by Obama on his brutal war on drugs, which has left thousands dead.
“He should have realized that I was also a head of sovereign state. He should have criticized me in the proper venue. He should have brought the case to the United Nations rather than castigate a President of another country in a press conference. So, I got mad. I said a lot of cuss, epithets, son of a…,” he said.
