President Rodrigo Duterte has postponed his visit to Leyte because of the recent explosion of Taal Volcano in Batangas.

Duterte was supposed to lead the distribution of benefits to former rebels in San Isidro town on Tuesday.

“Due to the recent eruption of Taal Volcano, and to ensure the safety of travel and better preparation of the officials, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s engagement in San Isidro, Leyte – the distribution of benefits to rebel returnees – has been rescheduled to a later date,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a statement.

“Members of the Malacanañg Press Corps shall be notified with an updated schedule as soon as this becomes available,” added Panelo.

Duterte held an aerial inspection of Taal earlier today. He was accompanied by his longtime aide and Senator Christopher Go.
