Duterte denies gov’t hand in NUPL official’s killing: WTF? Napaka-small time niyo naman!
President Rodrigo Duterte has denied that the government is behind the killing of an abogado helping the families of the nine farmers slain in Negros Occidental in October.
In a speech in Boracay Thursday (November 8), Duterte said the government has no motive to kill Benjamin Ramos.
“Kami pa ang pagbibintangan ang gobyerno. What the f***** s**? Why would I kill a lawyer? Napaka small time ninyo naman. Why would I assassinate him? For what?” he asked during the distribution of certificates of land ownership award to agrarian reform beneficiaries.
Duterte, however, said there was no excuse for land grabbing, which he accused the farmers killed in Sagay of doing.
“Whether you have a lawyer or not, you cannot occupy somebody else’s land by force and intimidation. I will not allow it. That’s anarchy. Kaya ‘pag pumasok kayo, my orders to the police and the military, evict them. Evict them out physically and if they choose to fight, kill them,” he said.
Ramos, the secretary general of the National Union of People’s Lawyers, was killed Tuesday (November 6) by unidentified men on board a motorcycle in his hometown of Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.
He was known as a “go-to” pro bono lawyer for farmers, environmentalists, activists, and political prisoners in the province.
Last month, nine farmers, including four women and two minors, were repeatedly shot by unidentified men in a farm at Hacienda Nene, Purok Firetree, Barangay Bulanon in Sagay City.
The farmers were reportedly engaged in aditional “bungkalan,” or planting of vegetables and root crops on the idle sugar land.
Duterte said the police and military can shoot suspects if they resist arrest.
“‘Pag lumaban kayo at the policeman or the military man there present feels that his life is in danger, sobra ang ano ninyo katapangan, eh di away tayo… ‘Pag nakahawak ng baril ‘yan o itak or whatnot, barilin mo,” he said.
