President Rodrigo Duterte has tasked the Department of Health (DOH) to immediately respond to the measles cases and outbreaks in certain parts of the country.

“He directed Secretary (Francisco) Duque (III) to do something about it,” Duterte’s spokesperson and chief legal counsel Salvador Panelo said on Thursday.

For his part, Duque said they are already conducting massive immunization drive and information campaign for vaccines.

“Kailangan masolusyon natin ‘yung outbreak,” Panelo quote Duterte as saying.

Following the rising number of measles cases, the DOH has declared measles outbreaks in the National Capital Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Western Visayas, and Central Visayas.

The outbreak declaration aims to “strengthen surveillance of new cases and alert mothers and caregivers to be more vigilant,” said Duque.
