President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict to work “doubly hard” to address the country’s years-long problem of insurgency.
During the ceremonial awarding of housing units to former rebels in Tagum City Tuesday, Duterte reiterated his intent of ending the local communist insurgency.
“I hope that today’s event will continue to encourage the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict, the Task Force Balik-Loob, and their local counterparts to work doubly hard in addressing the problems of insurgency so that our people can enjoy safer and more secure communities,” said the President.
In his speech, Duterte also enjoined ex-communist rebels to fully embrace mainstream society “by being responsible, productive and law-abiding citizens.”
The government, he added, has taken concrete measures in addressing their needs including financial assistance, firearms remuneration, and housing units.
“I am well aware of the problem of insurgency often stems from the inability of government services to effectively and efficiently reach our people. Thus, since the beginning of this administration, we have worked to prioritize the enactment of policies and programs that will greatly improve the lives of our people and even those who have turned away from government,” according to him.
