Duterte doesn’t believe Davao mall owner Michael Yang is a drug lord: Matagal na ‘yan sa Davao!
President Rodrigo Duterte has cleared Davao-based businessman of involvement in the illegal drug trade amid rumors that he is a big-time pusher.
In a speech before members of the Philippine Military Academy Alumni Association Thursday (October 4), Duterte said Michael Yang could not have been a drug pusher due to his closeness to Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Zhao Jianhua and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.
“Ito daw si isang Michael Yang na drug addict daw, who is a… At saka kasama ‘yan doon sa entourage ni Premier of China,” he said.
Duterte said Yang, who owns the Davao City Los Amigos (DCLA) stores in Mindanao, is known for lending credit to Chinese businessmen.
He shared that one time, Yang dropped by one of his command conferences and asked if he could bring in more investors into the country.
Talagang naghirap ‘yan,” Duterte said.
Given Yang’s closeness with Chinese politikos, the President was confident that the businessman would be cleared when rumors about his alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade are publicized.
Kalokohan,” he said.
Duterte said he had warned Yang before not to get involved in the illegal drug trade and the businessman appears to have taken his advice.
Matagal na ‘yan sa Davao,” he said.
