Duterte explains why he can’t ban cigarettes: Tina-tax sila!

Unlike vaping products or electronic cigarettes, the Philippine government cannot ban tobacco products because they are taxed, according to President Rodrigo Duterte.
“Why can’t we ban cigarettes because we allow its manufacture and maybe the importation of tobacco. We allow it, pinapayagan natin tapos we tax them. So yung produce nila, yung sigarilyo na lumalabas sa factory, hindi natin mapigilan,” said Duterte in a speech on Thursday.
The President also reiterated his order to ban the use of vapes because of its nicotine content.
“Itong vaping may nicotine. Kung hindi ka ulol, may nicotine, pero may nilagay kayong mga flavoring diyan,” according to him.
“Sabi ko sa pulis, hulihin ninyo basta in public. Eh may nicotine eh. Parang sigarilyo, eh di bawal. Pati yung sa display ipatanggal na ninyo. Hindi ako papayag. Hindi to maaari,” he added.
