President Rodrigo Duterte said he was extremely happy with the creation of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Duterte made the statement in his speech at the inauguration of the BARMM at the Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Complex held in Cotabato City Friday evening.
“Before I would start reading my prepared speech, May I just express in front of you my extreme happiness that it gives me the high that we were able to realize at least a part, maybe not all, but a part of what the entire country would have wished for the Moro people of Mindanao,” according to the President.
“I cannot express my sense of gratitude to you for understanding, for giving us the time to craft the law to make it legal and a promise a new dawn for the Moro, the Bangsamoro area or territory,” he added.
The BARMM, which replaces the 29-year-old Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, will be governed by the 80-member Bangsamoro Transition Authority for the three-year transition period until 2022.
