Duterte gives up on fighting corruption: ‘Di ko kayang habulin!
President Rodrigo Duterte appears to have thrown in the towel as far as fighting corruption is concerned.
In a speech Sunday (October 14), Duterte said he offered to resign before high ranking military and police officials because he can no longer deal with corruption.
He made the offer during a recent command conference.
“Sabi ko, ‘Tumindig lang kayong apat ngayon. You stand up to signify your willingness that I will step down and I will step down.’ I offered to step down. Sabi ko hindi ko kaya. Corruption dito tapos maasahan mo dito, pagdating mo meron na naman na bago,” Duterte said during the book launch of former President Fidel Ramos.
“It was a Cabinet meeting then after that a command conference, sabi ko ‘hindi ko kaya’. Hindi ko kayang habulin. Hindi ko talaga kayang habulin. Every desk in that — in this government, with a few exceptions, merong ‘pag mag-transaction talaga,” he added.
Duterte, however, said no one from the military or police’s ranks stood up to him, which he took to mean they didn’t want him to step down.
“Hindi naman tumindig ang military pati pulis, ibig sabihin na sige trabaho ka muna diyan,” he said.
