Duterte hits onerous Maynilad, Manila Water contracts: They were treating us if it was a mining gold o diamond

President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday slammed the Manny Pangilinan-led Maynilad and Ayala-controlled Manila Water – two private water providers in Metro Manila – for alleged irregular water contracts.
During a ceremony at the Malacañan Palace, Duterte expressed his anger over the ruling held by the Permanent Court of Arbitration in Singapore that required the Philippine government to pay Manila Water P7.39 billion for non-implementation of water rate hikes back in 2015.
“We are being milked by billions and pinapabayad pa tayo ng mga fines and penalties,” the President said.
“Atin ang tubig, sila ang distributor Manila Water. Ngayon, may nag — may pumasok tayo sa kontrata na distributor lang sila. But they were treating us if it was a mining gold o diamond.
“Ang kontrata napaka-tagilid na tagilid because if they fail to realize the profit enduring the lifetime of the contract or at any period, babayad tayo sa nalugi nila. Anak ng… P***** i** naman ninyo kung ganun.,” he added.
In 2017, the government was also ordered by the international tribunal to repay Maynilad P3.424 billion in revenue losses from March 2015 to August 2016 for the delay in implementing water rate adjustments.
