Duterte justifies sexist jokes: God created women as a ‘second thought’
President Rodrigo Duterte believes his controversial jokes about women are justified because God created them as an “afterthought.”
In a speech during Senator-elect Bong Go’s thanksgiving party in Davao City Thursday (May 23), Duterte said God would have created women first if they were the “favored” sex.
“Kung talagang inuna ang babae according to the Bible, you are listening to me now, hindi ako pastor.
Ang babae was a second thought,” he said.
Duterte joked that men wouldn’t have headaches if women did not exist.
“Sabi ng Diyos, kawawa naman ito si Adam. Nandiyan ‘di ba? Wala siyang kasama. So ang Diyos, gumawa pa ng isang babae. Doon nagkal*****-l***** ‘yung desisyon ng ano,” he said.
Duterte has drawn criticism over some of his remarks against women, which he or Malacañang has dismissed as a joke.
Among the controversial comments Duterte made about women include his joke about the huge number of rape cases in Davao City because it has a lot of beautiful women, his willingness to volunteer to take the place of any soldier convicted for rape under martial law in Mindanao, and his plan to use “virgins” to lure investors.
