Duterte keen on signing rice tariffication bill into law

President Rodrigo Duterte was not inclined to veto the rice tariffication bill, seeking to remove the quantitative restriction on rice importation, said Malacanang.
The proposal, which is seen to help ease inflation, only needs Duterte’s signature to become a law.
“I don’t think the President will (veto). I don’t think so. Kasi ‘yan ang posisyon niya kagabi, sinasabi niya for the greater interest and for the greater good,” spokesperson Salvador Panelo said on Thursday.
Stakeholders from the rice industry met with Duterte in Malacanang on Wednesday, urging the President to veto the rice tariffication measure.
In a media briefing, Panelo also said, “Sabi ko nga kanina it could be forthcoming kasi nagbigay na siya ng posisyon niya doon sa mga farmers na kausap niya.”
“Sabi ng presidente sa kanila pwedeng mapektuhan kayo but ang kabuuan ng Pilipino ang inaaalala ko,” according to him.
