President Rodrigo Duterte lauded the officials from Guinobatan town in Albay for conducting pre-emptive evacuation of residents due to the threat posed by typhoon “Rolly.”
In a televised briefing Monday evening, Duterte said the immediate local response saved lives in imminent danger.
“You have to credit the foresight of the local officials that they warned the residents well and advanced and there was an evacuation way long before it actually happened,” the chief executive said.
“For that alone I’d like to thank the officials of Guinobatan,” he added.
On Monday, Duterte visited a barangay in Guinobatan to meet with typhoon-affected residents.
He also conducted an aerial inspection of the areas devastated by “Rolly.”
