Duterte leaves Aguirre to deal with Napoles: Diskarte niya ‘yan!
President Rodrigo Duterte is taking a hands off approach in alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles’ bid to become a state witness.
In a speech before his supporters in Pasay City Wednesday (March 21), Duterte said he doesn’t usually meddle in the affairs of his Cabinet Secretaries.
“Hinayaan ko ‘yan sila. [Transportation Secretary Arthur] Tugade, valedictorian namin ‘yan sa law school. Si Vit Aguirre– sabi ko, ‘bakit nasabit na naman siya dito kay Napoles?’ Eh diskarte niya ‘yan eh,” he said.
Napoles’ abogado, Stephen David, earlier revealed that he talked to Aguirre and Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea about the prospect of the businesswoman being accepted into the government’s witness protection program (WPP).
While Aguirre confirmed meeting with David, he said it was only to tell the abogado to file the appropriate motions before the Sandiganbayan regarding Napoles’ transfer to the custody of the Department of Justice.
The Cabinet Secretary, however, hinted that Napoles was qualified to become a state witness since plunder is supposedly a case for government officials and the businesswoman was thus just a co-conspirator.
