Not one, but three.
Instead of one top cop for the Philippine National Police, three police officials one chief each for Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will be appointed, official sources said.
“The perennial problem of bata-bata and mistah mentality in the PNP, led to the discussion of assigning three top cops, instead of one,’’ the source familiar to the discussion told Politiko.
The source added that President Rodrigo Duterte is having a hard time
choosing the official replacement of former PNP chief Oscar Albayalde,
who was accused of protecting policemen involved in alleged selling of seized illegal drugs in Pampanga, in 2013.
The source also said that the suggestion to assigned one chief for each island was brought to Duterte in one of the meetings in connection with the selection of the PNP chief.
“The President was open to the suggestion, and told his legal staff
to study the matter,’’ the source said.
