President Rodrigo Duterte skipped the 3rd Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Summit and the Closing Ceremony of the 35th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits.

Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez represented Duterte at the RCEP Summit while Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locain Jr. was sent to attend the closing ceremony.

Malacañang has yet to issue a statement on the matter.

To recall, Duterte was also not present during the RCEP meeting held in Singapore last year.

The RCEP comprises 10 ASEAN member states, namely Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, together with their six free-trade partners which are China, Japan, South Korea, India, Australia, and New Zealand.
