Duterte offers prayers for victims of Balangiga massacre

President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday went to Balangiga Massacre Memorial Wall to offer prayers for the victims of the Filipino-American war more than a century ago.

Duterte made the visit following the ceremonial handover of the Bells of Balangiga to local officials in Eastern Samar.

The President also gave a salute to the victims of the Balangiga massacre, which is believed to be one of the bloodiest events during the Philippine-American War.

During the turnover ceremony, Duterte pointed out that no single person should take credit for the church bells’ historical return.

“Nobody but nobody can claim a singular credit for the generous act of the Americans. The bells are returned. The credit goes to the American people and to the Filipino people, period,” he said.
