President Rodrigo Duterte sent Police Chief Inspector Jovie Espenido to Bacolod to address the city’s illegal drug problem, his spokesman said.
“Kasi nasa Bacolod ako, maraming nagpunta sa akin nagrereklamo on drugs. So sinabi ko kay Presidente, maraming report dito, ganito, ganyan,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a media briefing Thursday.
“Ang sabi niya sa kin, ‘Kaya nga nag-ano si Espenido. Yan ang response ko diyan sa problema ng Bacolod’,” Panelo quoted Duterte as saying.
Espenido is set to be transferred to Police Regional Office (PRO) Western Visayas from PRO-Northern Mindanao.
Lt. Col. Joem Malong, the spokesperson of PRO-6, said the controversial cop “is projected to be assigned to Bacolod City Police Office.
To recall, Espenido led the drug raids that killed Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo “Aldong” Parojinog, his wife, and several others in 2017.
He was also the police chief in Albuera, Leyte when former mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr., who was detained for charges of illegal drugs and illegal possession of firearms, was killed in his jail cell.
