President Rodrigo Duterte has directed members of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) to focus on communities most affected by insurgency.
During the Joint NTF-ELCAC and the Armed Forces of the Philippines-Philippine National Police Command Conference in Malacañang last November 18, National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr. said Duterte wanted to address the roots of the communist insurgency “through enhanced programs and harmonized efforts in providing for basic needs.”
The President also provided guidelines in addressing the challenges and limitations faced by government units on the ground, added Esperon.
“If we cannot solve this problem now, our children will be confronted with this problem still. Ako gusto ko tapusin na lahat,” said Duterte as he stressed his desire to put an end to decades-old communist rebellion in the country.
Esperon said the chief executive also prodded local governments for greater participation in the NTF-ELCAC for future generations.
“I don’t want the next generation to worry about the communist terrorist group again,” Duterte said.
