President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday ordered government agencies to immediately provide the needs of those affected by typhoon Auring.
In the situation briefing on the effects of Auring held in Tandag City, Surigao del Sur, Duterte instructed his Cabinet members to assess within the week the impact of the typhoon and ensure the smooth delivery of public services to the people.
“He also emphasized that he does not want local government officials to have to go to Metro Manila to personally do the follow-up,” Senator Christopher Go, a longtime aide of the President, said in a press release.
According to Go, the Department of Transportation committed to install runway lights after the construction and improvements of Tandag Airport, one of two airports in Surigao del Sur.
The Department of Public Works and Highways, he added, will coordinate with the provincial government on the needed equipment for the construction of barangay roads.
Also, the Philippine National Police vowed to ensure peace and order and address insurgency-related issues in the area.
Earlier today, Duterte conducted an aerial inspection of areas hit by Auring in Tandag.
