Duterte orders rearrest of suspect in Silawan case

President Rodrigo Duterte wants the suspect in the brutal killing of Christine Lee Silawan, whose face was skinned off, rearrested.
In a speech delivered in South Cotabato Tuesday evening, Duterte said he called the prosecutor who ordered the 17-year-old suspect’s release and asked to recall the decision.
“Hindi ako papayag na ganunin mo lang ang tao, especially oppression. Patayin mo ang bata? Balatan mo tapos masibat ka lang, mahuli ka after six days tapos marelease ka kasi hindi hot pursuit?” the Chief Executive asked
“For as long as there is somebody who conducted an investigation and made a follow up every day, that is still hot pursuit to me. Impossible yang hot pursuit 24 hours lang,” he added.
The Lapu-Lapu Prosecutors Office earlier said the suspect was released, noting that the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested him without a warrant.
The NBI, however, argued that a warrant of arrest is not needed because they conducted a hot pursuit operation.
