President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday ordered the military to rescue children from armed opposition.
During a post-calamity situation briefing in Surigao del Sur, Duterte instructed soldiers to save children that had been recruited by the New People’s Army (NPA), the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines.
“Itong mga NPA, kinukuha nila ang mga anak, dinadala nila sa ibang lugar,” according to the Chief Executive.
“Kunin ninyo ang bata at isauli ninyo sa nanay pati tatay because a child, a minor should not be separated from the family home,” he also said.
In his speech, Duterte also slammed NPA rebels for collecting taxes “everywhere and anywhere.”
“Kaya may pera, may pera talaga yan. Yung mga kaibigan ni (Labor Secretary) Bebot (Bello III), mayayaman yan. They own almost half of Europe probably,” he added.
