President Rodrigo Duterte has chosen Philippine National Police (PNP) officer-in-charge Police Lieutenant General Archie Francisco Gamboa as the new police chief.
Duterte made the announcement at the thanksgiving gathering with The Fraternal Order of Eagles held at the SMX Convention Center in Davao City on Friday.
“We have the PNP chief. I am going to appoint you as the regular PNP… But you and I will, you and Secretary Año and I, we will have a long long long talk first,” the President told Gamboa during his speech.
“Ipinakita mo sa akin yung sincerity mo and I’d like you to leave something that you will be remembered by the country,” he added.
Duterte took two months to appoint the new police chief after the retirement of PNP chief Oscar Albayalde in November.
