President Rodrigo Duterte would rather kill himself than be treated by the Islamic-State linked Abu Sayyaf group in an inhuman or degrading way.
“Pagka nag-engine trouble ‘yan sa gitna ng bundok ‘yang chopper at magpapa-surrender, kainin ko ‘yang isang magazine kung kaya ko pa.
I will not allow myself to be humiliated with that kind of s***,” said Duterte in his visit to Camp General Vicente Lukban in Samar.
In his speech on Wednesday evening, the Chief Executive criticized the treatment of hostages being held captive by the extremist group, saying they are treated like dogs, before eventually killing them.
“So nakita ko ‘yung ibang mga insidente na ang ating — mga sundalo ko nag-surrender and then only to be treated like dogs in the camp of the Abu Sayyaf. Tapos at the end of the day, sa harap ng video pinuputulan ng ulo. Maybe out of outrage or — talagang galit lang ako. Sinabi ko na ayaw kong makita ‘yang sundalo ko na pinuputulan ng ulo sa harap ko,” he said.
Duterte also told the military to just kill themselves instead of surrendering to the Abu Sayyaf rebels who are known for kidnappings, bombings, and extortion.
“Mas mabuti ‘yan kaysa gawain kang aso, ilang buwan, ilang taon tapos papatayin ka rin pala in a very cruel way. Mas mabuti pang makita kong mag-harakiri na ‘yang sundalo ko, huwag lang ako bigyan nang ganung…,” the President added.
