Soldiers assigned to spend the holidays in Sulu may miss being with their families, but they can look forward to having an overseas trip soon courtesy of President Rodrigo Duterte.
During his visit to Camp General Teodulfo Bautista in Jolo Friday (December 1), Duterte promised soldiers he will treat them to a vacation in Hong Kong.
“Uuwi ba halos kayong lahat? Kasi ‘yung magpaiwan, tiis lang kayo. Hong Kong ang prize ninyo basta magpa-iwan dito,’ he said, drawing applause from the soldiers.
Duterte, however, joked that the soldiers cannot bring their wives with them abroad.
“Hindi pwedeng magdala ng asawa. Kabit lang. Para mas maganda ang labanan. Ang asawa, away pa ‘yan. Asawa? Pagdating niyo sa kwarto mga isang oras, mag-sisigawan na ‘yan. Pero kung uyab, honeymoon talaga,” he said.
Duterte previously rewarded female soldiers who fought in Marawi City with a vacation in Hong Kong after the fighting was over.
During his visit to Sulu, Duterte awarded the Order of Lapu-Lapu– both Kamagi and Kampilan medals– to the soldiers who fought in Marawi City.
He also gave personal sidearms to soldiers so they can defend themselves against members of the New People’s Army.
As a treat, the President also gifted watches to soldiers celebrating their birthdays.
