KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato – Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte expressed confidence that President Rodrigo Duterte’s latest tirades against the Catholic Church won’t affect the winnability of the administration candidates in the May polls.
Mayor Duterte’s statement came following her father blasted anew the members of the clergy and admitted he stopped hearing masses.
“I think hindi naman (affected), the senators hindi naman sila affected sa kung anong sinasabi, yung HNP supporters naman hindi din affected the pronouncements ng President,” she said during an interview right after Wednesday’s proclamation rally of Hugpong ng Pagababago’s (HNP) in Koronadal City, South Cotabato.
Senatorial candidates from the Liberal Party-led Otso Diretso earlier warned that the President’s tirade against the Church will result in an alleged Catholic vote for opposition bets.
But the Presidential daughter said she was not convinced over the such wishful thinking analysis from members of the opposition coalition who were all trailing behind in various pre-election surveys.
The Davao City mayor said she is confident that HNP-backed senatioriables will be able to win the hearts of the majority of Catholic voters this coming May 13 polls.
“I think they will also get the Catholic votes on their own,” said Mayor Duterte.
Up to nine senatorial candidates supported by HNP may enter the winning circle next month based on the survey conducted by Pulse Asia last March
