President Rodrigo Duterte reaffirmed his administration’s friendship with Singapore, citing the latter’s continuing cooperation with the Philippines in the fight against coronavirus disease pandemic.
Duterte made the statement in a letter addressed to Singaporean President Halimah Yacob, whose country is celebrating its 55th year of independence Sunday.
“The Filipino nation joins the people of Singapore in celebrating the collective achievements that have made Singapore the modern and prosperous country that it is today,” the President said.
“May we continue to work together, in solidarity and partnership, to achieve our shared aspirations and to weather all challenges, including the current global pandemic, for the continued well-being of our peoples,” he added.
In 2019, Duterte received Halimah in Manila during her State Visit that also marked the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Singapore.
