“It is normal to feel anxious, concerned and even afraid.”

President Rodrigo Duterte said this on Thursday as he addressed the nation on the potential public health threat posed by the deadly coronavirus.

“To my fellow Filipinos, I understand many of you are worried about the world health and the well being of our loved ones. It is normal to feel anxious, concerned and even afraid,” according to Duterte.

The President encouraged the public to “frequently” wash their hands and wear masks to avoid contracting the disease.

“Maging malinis. Hugasan yung kamay frequently, yung paulit ulit. Kung every handshake mo, kung humatsing ka, takpan mo bunganga mo at tingnan mo hindi ka makahawa sa ibang tao. Kung ikaw naman ay may ubo, mag mask ka na lang,” he added.

In a recorded video message via RTVM, Duterte also assured Filipinos in China that his government is “ready to bring you home if you want.”

To date, the Department of Health has confirmed three cases of coronavirus infection in the Philippines. None of those infected is a Filipino national.
