When he prays at night, President Rodrigo Duterte said the improvement in the quality of life of Filipinos is foremost on his mind.
“Yes, for my country. Wala na akong hinihingi pa para sa akin,” said Duterte in an interview that aired on GMA’s “Unang Hirit” on Tuesday.
He added, “Ako, hindi na ako nagdadasal para sa sarili ko, para sa bayan ko lang.”
In July, Duterte, who has questioned the existence of heaven and hell and cursed the pope for causing traffic in Manila, described himself as a “deeply religious person.”
“You might think that just because I quarrel with the cardinals and the bishops that I am not… that I’m irreverent. Yung, I could be a sacrilegious guy. Hindi kaya,” the President said during an interview with Pastor Apollo Quiboloy.
“I am a deeply religious person, sa totoo lang. And my life, alam ni pastor ‘yan, is the Bible. And if you can memorize by heart and understand Ecclesiastes 3. You can face any problem. You might not be able to solve it but you can understand why,” he added.
