Duterte slams elitists from Manila, Church: They don’t like me because I’m probinsyano
President Rodrigo Duterte is not surprised why Manila’s oligarchs and Church leaders hate his guts.
Duterte said these “elitists” have looked down on him as an interloper or an outsider who does not belong to their circle but who has suddenly become the most powerful person in the country.
“But the rich? The rich bishops? People from Manila are elitists.)They never really liked me. First, because I’m from the province. Second, the issue about drugs and the killings,” said Duterte in a speech in Davao City.
Duterte said this was the reason why the oligarchs and the Church have conspired to destabilize his administration and oust him from power since Day One of his six-year term in 2016.
He said these people would not know his reason for taking an iron hand in fighting the drug scourge because they do not know the violence and corruption happening on the ground.
“The people who can’t stomach it are not from Davao because those who are from Davao would understand. But the ones who can’t understand are the bishops and the elitists in Manila,” said Duterte.
