Bureau of Corrections chief Director General Nicanor Faeldon continues to enjoy the trust and confidence of President Rodrigo Duterte amid calls for him to resign.
The mother of Chiong sisters earlier demanded Faeldon to step down from his post for allegedly signing the release orders of the three persons convicted in the 1997 rape-slay case.
“Hanggang hindi nagsasalita si Presidente, the presumption is he still has the trust and confidence,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in an interview over dzIQ Sunday.
Asked if Duterte has commented to calls for Faeldon’s resignation, Panelo said: “Wala. Wala pa naman syang sinasabi. Hayaan natin si Presidente kung ano ang kanyang magiging desisyon diyan.”
The chief presidential legal counsel, meanwhile, shrugged off concerns over the “recycling” of fired officials under the Duterte administration.
Before his reassignment, Faeldon served as Commission of the Bureau of Customs and the Office of Civil Defense.
“Hayaan na natin si Presidente. Diskarte ni Presidente yun. He has the absolute discretion on that,” Panelo said.
