Duterte suspends business operations of Pampanga supermarket

President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the suspension of operations against all Chuzon Supermarket branches after its Porac branch in Pampanga collapsed following a magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck
“Well, in all probability the one who constructed the supermart here could also be the one who constructed the others. I’d like to presume that. Although I stand corrected,” Duterte said during a situation briefing in Pampanga Tuesday evening.
“So it would be good at this time to just give them the advice to stop — cease and desist doing business until such time that the clearance given by government whether the city or city engineer or whoever is competent to review the planning and inquire into what kind of materials whether they were made or applied in right sizes or was there any shortcuts made,” the President added.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque earlier said at least four were killed and 14 were missing at the collapsed four-storey Chuzon building in Porac.
Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said he would issue a memorandum circular to local government units that have Chuzon Supermarket in their jurisdiction to suspend the grocery store’s business permits.
“Actually the owner of the supermarket has been summoned by the CIDG already this afternoon. So before we let the supermarket go into business operation we have first to assess. There are about I believe four other Chuzon Supermarket around Pampanga,” said Año.
