Duterte tells Pope Francis: P.I. mo
Has Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte gone too far with his cursing spree?
At the tail end of his speech Monday afternoon at Century Park hotel where he was declared PDP-Laban standard-bearer, Duterte couldn’t help but comment how terrible the traffic situation in the Philippines has become.
“I have to cut short (my speech), it’s 5 o’clock, nataon pa sa traffic. I advise you, umihi muna kayo,” he said, eliciting laughter from the crowd.
Duterte then recalled the horrendous traffic that he and a friend encountered last January during Pope Francis’ visit to Manila.
“From the hotel to the airport, alam mo inabot kami ng…dito lang…niyaya ako…limang oras. Sabi ko bakit? Sabi pinasarado daw,” the politiko said.
He then asked, “Eh sino darating?” “Si Pope (Francis),” answered his companion.
“Gusto kong tawagan, ‘Pope putangina ka umuwi ka na. Wag ka nang magbisita dito,'” Duterte said. Although the people still found it funny, some in the audience–particularly the elders–remained quiet, with one even making the “stop” sign with her hands.
Duterte, who has a cult-like following outside of his native Mindanao, actually prevented himself from cussing early on in his speech, saying “Dapat behaved, nandito PDP-Laban”. His abstinence didn’t last long.
