Duterte threatens to shut down PUP: ‘Wala akong pakialam sa kanila’

President Rodrigo Duterte said he wouldn’t mind closing down the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP).
“Kayo diyan ‘yang pwede nating sarahan ‘yang PUP. Wala akong pakialam sa kanila. Go ahead,” Duterte told reporters Tuesday evening.
The President then ordered the military and the police to gun down its students recruited into communism.
“You want something of an adventure and be killed in the process, you want your young mind to be swayed to the world of violence, iwanan mo ang pamilya mo, go ahead. Go ahead,” according to him.
“Then maghanap kayo ng armas, ‘pag makita kayo ng sundalo o pulis, ang order ko nga dead or alive. Patayin mo. O gusto mong patayin ‘yang pulis, sige patayin mo kasi nagpa — I’m recruiting 20,000 again now. ‘Yun ang makaharap ninyo. You want to go to the mountains, demand, extort food? Go ahead. Gusto ninyong may galit kayo sa mundo kasi ganyan kayo at ‘yung iba meron, ikaw wala? Eh, hindi na kasalanan ng gobyerno. Kasalanan ng magulang ninyo ‘yan,” he added.
Duterte’s comments came a week after he vetoed a bill that seeks to grant the PUP the status of a national polytechnic university.
“Its proposed designation as national polytechnic university needs to be reassessed in light of its current performance ranking among SUCs in the country,” he said in his veto message dated September 4.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government had said PUP is among the schools being targeted for communist recruitment.
