Duterte to DAR chief Castriciones: ‘Wag kang mangulangot, gawin mo trabaho mo!
President Rodrigo Duterte is losing his patience over Agrarian Reform Secretary John Castriciones for dragging his feet in giving away land to recipients, including former rebels.
Duterte publicly scolded Castriciones for taking twice the ideal period to process and distribute 2,200 hectares of government land that Leyte Governor Leopoldo Dominoc Petilla said were available to former New People’s Army rebels.
“He (Castriciones) asked for six months. I told him that’s too long. Three months would be better. Unless you just spend the day picking your nose without really doing your job,” said Duterte.
Last year, Duterte had threatened to either fire or kill DAR officials for sitting on a land conversion case for two years which he believed was due to bribes from the commercial land owner.
“Kung hindi kayo mag-ano, kasuhan ko kayo.’Pag hindi pa kayo natakot sa kaso, patayin ko na lang kayo. I will file cases against you. If you’re not afraid of cases, I will just kill you…Parang mo akong ginagago kasi. You take me as a stupid idiot. Warning ako nang warning ako ng ganun tapos you do it again and again,” he said.
In February 2019, Duterte walked out of a Cabinet because of chronic delays in the land reform.
Duterte said : ”Castriciones used to be in the military (but) he was kicked out because of hazing. It’s when you beat up a cadet.”
Castriciones was first appointed as undersecretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government in 2016 until he was forced to quit amid corruption allegations from anonymous employees under him. He took over the Department of Agrarian Reform in 2017 after former Anakpawis Rep. Rafael Mariano was forced to resign in Duterte’s purge of communist allies in his Cabinet.
