Duterte to declare Martial Law if…

PDP-Laban presidential bet, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte won’t think twice about declaring Martial Law in case a “constitutional crisis” arises during his term.

Duterte told reporters on Thursday (January 14) during the special joint meeting of Rotary Club of Makati and Manila that he would set up a “revolutionary government” should the Executive run into conflict with the Legislative department when it comes to releasing the budget.

“If you threatened me with impeachment and create a constitutional crisis, I will be forced to declare a revolutionary government,” said the brash mayor, who is popular for his “take-no-prisoners” persona.

Still, Duterte noted that declaring Martial Law would remain the “last option” for his administration.

Filipinos have a dark part with Martial Law, particularly during the era of late strongman president Ferdinand Marcos when human rights violations were commonplace.

Meanwhile, “Digong” said he would tap ex-military officials as members of his Cabinet. He said that doing so would bolster the integrity of his administration.

Duterte believes that the former men in uniform can also eliminate corruption in the government. (Samantha A. Giron)
