Duterte to hold private meeting with CBCP president after ‘stupid God’ insult
It’s a private meeting, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said about Monday’s scheduled one-on-one dialogue between President Duterte and Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) president Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles in Malacanang.
Not even Roque is allowed to participate or remain in the said meeting, the agenda of which, he’s also not privy to.
“Even I can’t enter because it’s a one-on-one meeting between Archbishop Valles and the President. This was arranged by Archbishop Valles and the President directly. It will be a meeting between the two presidents. I do not know what will be discussed,” he said in a news briefing in Malacanang.
“Private meeting ang nakalagay,” Roque told Palace reporters in confirming Monday’s afternoon dialog between the prelate and the President slated in the afternoon.
“Sa aking pagkakaalam po, tuloy (ang meeting). Pero sa schedule po ng Presidente, nakalagay ay private meeting. So hindi ko lang po alam kung mayroon tayong maisasapubliko sa pagpupulong na ito, pero tatanungin po natin kay Presidente mamaya,” he said.
The dialogue, which was agreed upon following Roque’s meeting with the Papal Nuncio in the Philippines Archbishop Gabriele Giordano Caccia, was sought out in hope of mending the President’s ties with the Catholic Church following his “God is stupid” remark some two weeks ago.
